Terms of Service

By installing or using EthosBar you agree to these terms. They are written in plain language and are worth reading. The warranty disclaimer in section 5 is the most important part.

1. Acceptance

These Terms of Service govern your use of the EthosBar macOS application and the ethosbar.app website (collectively, “EthosBar” or “the Service”). By downloading, installing, or using EthosBar, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.

2. License grant

EthosBar is proprietary software, not open-source. When you purchase a Pro license you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use EthosBar on a single device. The following conditions apply:

Standard licenseOne license key activates one Mac. If you replace your primary machine, contact us to transfer the activation. You may not activate the same key on multiple devices simultaneously.
VIP licenseVIP keys are issued at our discretion for promotional, review, or partnership purposes. They are subject to revocation if abused, shared publicly, or used in a manner inconsistent with the purpose for which they were issued. No refund applies to revoked VIP keys as they are provided at no cost.
Free tierThe free tier of EthosBar is provided without a license key and without a warranty of any kind. It may be used indefinitely subject to the feature limitations described in the app.

3. Pro features

Access to Pro features — including the 2-minute refresh interval, native macOS system notifications, and monitoring more than 10 services simultaneously — requires a valid, non-revoked license key bound to the current device. We reserve the right to modify which features are included in the Pro tier with reasonable notice. Features will not be removed from an existing paid tier without a corresponding reduction in renewal price or a prorated refund option.

4. Payments and refunds

Payments for EthosBar Pro are processed by Polar, who acts as the merchant of record. Your purchase is subject to Polar's terms of service and refund policy.

In practice: Polar typically honours refund requests made within 14 to 30 days of purchase for digital products where the customer has a reasonable complaint. If you need a refund, email us at hello@ethosbar.app and we will process it through Polar on your behalf.

Lifetime licenses are eligible for refunds within 30 days of purchase. Subscription charges that have already been processed are non-refundable except where required by law.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

Read this section carefully.

EthosBar aggregates publicly available status information from third-party providers and displays it in your menu bar. It is an informational tool, not an infrastructure monitoring service with guaranteed uptime or accuracy.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that:

Status information is accurate, complete, or up to date at any given moment.
The app will be available at all times or function without interruption.
The Cloudflare proxy backend will be reachable at all times.
Third-party status pages accurately reflect actual service health.

IN NO EVENT SHALL ETHOSBAR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF REVENUE, DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR WASTED ENGINEERING TIME — ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

In plain terms: if you deploy to production because EthosBar showed all-green and a service was actually degraded, that is not our liability. Always confirm critical operational decisions through primary sources.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the EthosBar binary.
Share, resell, or sublicense your license key.
Attempt to circumvent license validation or feature gating.
Use EthosBar in a way that violates any applicable law.

7. Availability and changes

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of EthosBar at any time. For paid features, we will provide at least 30 days' notice before discontinuing them, during which time we will offer either a continuation of service or a prorated refund. We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If that fails, disputes will be submitted to the courts of competent jurisdiction in Sarajevo.
